Rendall & Wright worked alongside architects KLH to transform Old Hall, a listed Tudor building, with a sensitive and beautifully considered approach that celebrates its historic character while creating an inviting family home.
The project introduced a modern kitchen, dining and living space between two historic sections of the building, creating a natural connection between old and new. The original architecture was carefully preserved and enhanced throughout, with fireplaces restored, staircases repaired and historic details brought back into focus. Traditional materials and the building’s inherent beauty were celebrated rather than concealed, allowing its rich architectural character to remain at the heart of the design.
Within the historic building, Rendall & Wright cleverly reconfigured the former kitchen to create a study and formal dining room, making thoughtful use of spaces that had evolved over centuries. Bespoke joinery was designed around the building’s unusual proportions, quirky angles and varying roof heights, turning its inherent irregularities into distinctive design features.
Handmade soft furnishings and bespoke pieces were layered throughout, bringing warmth, texture and individuality to the interiors. Every detail was carefully considered to create a home that feels both rooted in its history and entirely suited to contemporary living.
The result is a characterful and inviting home where Tudor craftsmanship, architectural heritage and modern design sit effortlessly together — a sensitive transformation that celebrates the past while giving Old Hall a renewed sense of life and purpose.
