Rendall & Wright undertook the complete restoration and reconfiguration of this former Rectory, originally built in 1842. Over the years, the property had been crudely adapted by successive owners, resulting in the loss of much of its original architectural detail, windows and character. The project presented an opportunity to carefully restore the building’s heritage while creating a personal home equipped for their clients needs.
Rendall & Wright brought together a specialist team of architects, builders and garden designers to develop a cohesive vision for the entire estate. Original proportions and architectural character were carefully reconsidered, with windows reintroduced to restore balance and natural light. A discreet lift was incorporated, providing effortless access to the second floor while respecting the character of the historic building.
Throughout the house, every detail was thoughtfully considered. Bespoke kitchens and luxurious bathrooms sit alongside carefully crafted joinery, handmade soft furnishings and bespoke furniture, creating interiors that are both elegant and deeply personal. In the attic, an overlooked and underused space was transformed into a cinema and games room, while the original basement wine cellar was restored, reconnecting the property with an important part of its history.
Rendall & Wright’s approach to the interiors extended to the finest details, hand-painted silk walling brought a sense of artistry and richness to the master bedroom while traditional swags and tails added elegance and softness. Bespoke electrically operated curtain tracks and blinds were discreetly integrated, combining sophisticated technology with timeless detailing.
Beautiful antique pieces were carefully selected and expertly reupholstered, giving treasured furniture a renewed life while retaining its original character and craftsmanship.
The transformation extended beyond the main residence. The former coach house was completely redesigned to provide beautifully appointed guest accommodation, swimming pool changing facilities and a generous entertaining space complete with bar. New garages were constructed in a traditional Victorian style, providing practical accommodation for modern requirements while remaining sympathetic to the historic setting.
The gardens and approach to the house were also carefully redesigned, with new landscaping and a considered driveway creating a fitting arrival to the property.
The result is a complete and cohesive transformation — a historic Rectory carefully brought back to life, with its architectural beauty restored and its spaces reimagined for contemporary family life, entertaining and hospitality. Every element, from the smallest piece of bespoke joinery to the wider landscape, was designed to feel as though it belongs, creating a timeless and elegant home with a strong sense of place.
