The Old Rectory

As featured in 25 Beautiful Homes, May 2025

Rendall & Wright worked closely with the architects to sensitively extend this historic Old Rectory, creating a light-filled, open-plan kitchen and dining space that brings a contemporary dimension to the property while remaining sympathetic to its character.

The original part of the house was carefully restored and thoughtfully adapted to provide modern bathrooms on each floor. The property was completely rewired and a new heating system installed, ensuring contemporary comfort and functionality throughout.

Where sections of the building required rebuilding, the original bricks were carefully removed, cleaned and reinstated, preserving the integrity and character of the historic fabric. This considered approach allowed the old and new elements to sit naturally together, creating a home that celebrates its architectural heritage while providing a beautiful and practical setting for modern living.

Inside, Rendall & Wright developed rich and inviting soft furnishing schemes, bringing warmth, colour and texture to the interiors. Beautiful handmade window dressings and carefully upholstered furniture pieces were created specifically for the home, adding layers of comfort and craftsmanship.

The transformation extended beyond the house, with the gardens comprehensively redesigned to create a beautiful setting for both relaxation and entertaining. A swimming pool was introduced, alongside the conversion of the existing 1970s garage into a games room, complete with an outdoor kitchen and pool house extension.

A new garage and cartlodge were also constructed, providing practical storage while complementing the character of the surrounding property. Together, the architecture, landscape and interiors create a country home that feels elegant yet relaxed.
